Annual Vesak Day Celebrations & Dinner
Vesak Day is an important day for Buddhists around the world. It commemorates the Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. Most Buddhist temples will have various ceremonies to commemorate this day.
Every year on this day, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum would also arrange for 300 senior citizens from the 3 Kreta Ayer Senior Activity Centers in Chinatown to have a vegetarian dinner and watch cultural performances beside our temple. We will also give out red packets and goodie bags with essentials, to every senior citizen who comes over to join us for the Vesak Day Celebrations.
This is one way to show gratitude to our elderly, who have played a pivotal role in Singapore's nation-building process. This is also our attempt to assist these underprivileged seniors, who are staying in the rental blocks in the Chinatown district fulfill their daily needs while allowing them to join us in celebrating this significant occasion.
We also take this opportunity to give out donations to several charities, including President's Challenge (since our opening in 2007).
