CSR @ Myanmar Seik Phu Taung Youth Development Centre
The Seik Phu Taung Youth Development Centre is a school located in Kyaikhto, Myanmar. Established in 1981, it provides shelter and education for 700 orphans and children from low-income families. They range from 6 months old infants to 22 year old young adults.
In 2015, staff and volunteers from Metta Welfare Association and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple led a series of CSR projects and visits to the centre. Setting up reliable electricity, garbage clearing, mural wall painting and distribution of food and goodie bags are some activities we did for our CSR projects there. We also renovated the computer classroom and sourced new computers for installation to enable the students to learn computer literacy in a conducive environment.
In 2016, we continued our CSR project at the centre to further assist the students there. We laid interlocking bricks on the roads as there were incidents of muddy pathways causing people to fall. This activity was carried out together with YDC's students. We are pleasantly surprised that the students are keen and fast learners as they took the initiative to pave the bricks in other parts of the campus. We also introduced and taught them about the water filtration system to ensure they will have access to clean water.
We are pleased to be able to embark on this meaningful project that can uplift the lives of children from low-income backgrounds in Myanmar. It was a fruitful trip filled with memories for all the staff and volunteers involved.
